Proton, a leading Malaysian car maker, is keenly looking forward to enter the rapidly growing India auto market. The company is currently searching for a partner to start its India operations. It has been more than one year since the company is mulling over to enter the country’s highly competitive auto market.
Recently, Malaysia's International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister, Dr Mahathir was quoted as saying in a leading Malaysian news paper, "The Indian market is huge but very competitive as there are many cheap home-grown brands produced in the country. If Proton can penetrate India, then it will be able to succeed anywhere."
As per Mr. Mukhriz, the company will be entering India with a small product portfolio and is looking for a partner in the country that is willing to invest and provide maintenance services. The prospective India venture of the company could be sped up next year, when India and Malaysia will sign a free trade agreement.
Proton is Malaysia’s the oldest car maker which was founded in year 1983 under the direction of the former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad. The company currently exports its cars to a number of foreign countries including United Kingdom, South Africa, and Australia.

SMART GUYS GET IT! The tag line of New Proton Inspira which is now open for booking. Here are update details of price list with monthly installment / payment for Proton Inspira. The booking fee is RM1,000 and waiting period will be around 1.5 month. This new Inspira will be officially launch on November 2010.
Just to remember, Proton Inspira is a rebadge model from Mitsubishi Lancer which is a model that is made from a collaboration of Proton and Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi will get the Exora for rebadge in Japan under them as the fair technology sharing. No issue of copy and paste eventhough the model is 95% same. Proton added Lotus handling and autocruise to the Proton Inspira that makes Proton Inspira more value for money.
This is a good strategy by Proton to increase its sale. From the name of Proton Inspira, it is a model that will give inspiration to the upcoming model from Proton. The DNA such as CVT gearbox, paddle shifter and performance will be the example of inspiration.
